Every February, people in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today. Today, we celebrate the life and accomplishments of Serena Williams. She is a beacon to many as she dominated the world of professional tennis for decades, making a name for herself in the history books. Serena Williams is a tremendous success and an inspiration. Many of our 5th graders have shown interest in playing an instrument or singing when they get to middle school. To help with transition, the middle school directors will be hosting instrument demos and tryouts for our students. This is a great opportunity to try different instruments before deciding which they would like to commit to. See flyer for more information.

LCPS parents, Our bus partner, STS of New Mexico, has been receiving updates on a construction project along Main Street that could delay bus service for students. From now until October 2024, portions of Main between Elks and Solano could experience temporary closures, lane restrictions and traffic congestion. We understand that construction will pose challenges to our daily routines, and we ask for your patience as STS of New Mexico works to ensure everyone's safety while looking into adjusting bus routes. Safe Routes to School is offering two opportunities for ADULT bike classes. Back on the Bike: for beginners, or those who haven't ridden in years. This will be a very low key, supportive environment. Saturday, February 24th 9am - 1pm Register here: https://forms.office.com/r/FtawG0xuvG Smart Cycling: for confident riders to build skills, learn best practices, laws, and potentially those interested in getting certified to become League Cycling Instructors. There will be a road test with this class. Both require an online portion to be completed ahead of on the bike which is +/- 3 hours.
